INCREMENT: 1: the action or process of increasing especially in quantity or value : enlargement, 2a : something gained or added b : one of a series of regular consecutive additions c : a minute increase in quantity, 3: the amount or degree by which something changes; especially : the amount of positive or negative change in the value of one or more of a set of variables (http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/increments?show=0&t=1342797819)

During this elective (FWPF), we will be examining various processes of design in a series of different exercises, (e.g., drawings, section models, sculptures). On the one hand, incremental is a process with little „control" - the result being thus, a „surprise." On the other hand, it can be a way of understanding and constructing something very concrete and complex. We will move from the known to the unknown, from the unplanned to the planned, but always understanding that each increment could offer a solution in itself as well as a segue in another direction. One of the mini-projects we will conduct is a one or two day StopMotionFilm workshop with the kids from the „Multikulturelles Jugendzentrum" and the „Hauptschule Ridlerstrasse" in München-Westend. Please note that the dates may not correspond with regular class hours.

The purpose of disecting a „process" is that looking at things from another point of view could open up endless possibilities and ideas. During the course of the semester, you will be asked to produce independently and collectively solutions to various assignments; e.g., a couple of stop-motion films and a self-formulated semester project.
